Experiences from Across Our Programmes
I attended the Introduction to Financial Planning programme not knowing what to expect. What I took away was a much clearer sense of what I actually need to look at before speaking to any adviser. I had been putting off that conversation for years. Two months on, I feel like I'm asking the right questions instead of nodding along.

My employer had sent me to an overseas posting and I'd been watching the exchange rate obsessively but with no real understanding of why it moved. The Forex programme helped me see what I was looking at. It's not about predicting rates — it's about having a plan for your exposure. That shift in thinking was genuinely useful.

My partner and I attended the Estate Workshop together. We had been putting off writing a will for years — it always felt too complicated and a bit morbid. The workshop made it accessible without being superficial. We came away with a document checklist and a much better idea of what we need to actually do. The private session with the facilitator was very helpful.

I appreciated that nobody tried to sell us anything. I've been to other financial seminars that felt like extended product pitches. At Dollaroak the content was the point. The handbook from the financial planning programme is still sitting on my desk. I've referred to it more than once in the past three months.

I run a small business and have been thinking about what happens if something happens to me. The Estate Workshop covered business succession in a way that felt directly applicable to my situation — not generic theory. The facilitator was clearly someone with real-world experience in this area, not just a trainer reading from a script.

My daughter is studying in Australia and the Forex programme was something I attended specifically to understand how to plan around the education payments. The hedging workbook was useful. I would have liked one more session to go deeper on the scenarios, but overall the programme gave me a solid foundation I didn't have before.

How Participants Have Applied What They Learned
Challenge
A mid-level civil servant approaching 50 had various insurance policies and an EPF account but no clear understanding of how the pieces connected. She had never spoken to a financial planner and wasn't sure whether she needed to.
Approach
She attended the Introduction to Financial Planning programme. The self-assessment questionnaire helped her identify that her retirement coverage had a meaningful gap. The guide to choosing a planner gave her a list of specific questions to ask.
Outcome
Within six weeks of completing the programme she had her first structured meeting with an independent financial planner — and described it as the most useful financial conversation she'd ever had, largely because she came prepared.
"I finally understood what I was being shown. Before, I'd just nod and sign. This time I asked questions and they had to actually explain their recommendations."
— Puan Norazlina, Klang Valley · Introduction to Financial Planning
Challenge
A family business owner with property in Malaysia and the UK had no succession plan in place. His children were in different careers with different financial situations. He was aware the matter was important but found the topic overwhelming to start on his own.
Approach
He attended the Comprehensive Estate & Succession Workshop over three days. The business succession section and cross-border asset module were directly relevant. The private facilitation session allowed him to map out his specific situation with professional guidance.
Outcome
He left with a clear action list, an understanding of what type of legal and financial professionals he needed to engage, and a family communication plan. He engaged a solicitor the following month and reported that the conversations were far more efficient because of the preparation the workshop had provided.
"I came in knowing the topic mattered. I left with a plan of what to actually do — and crucially, what order to do it in."
— Mr. David Yap, KL Sentral · Estate & Succession Workshop
